Thakur Prithvi Singh Jhajhar

Introduction

Newly introduced the “Jhajhar” village situated in the erstwhile province of Shekhawati (Rajasthan), which is located in the Northern part of India. Shekhawati is also known as Scotland of India because of its valorous history. It is a semi-deserted region. Jhajhar located in mid of the Shekhawati region

History

Appx 17th centaury’s   The Jagir  (fiefdom) of Jhajhar with other villages was granted posthumously  to the crown prince of Udaipurwati, Kunwar Shri Purshottamdas Ji Saheb (Purshottam Singh), elder son of Thakur Todar Mal, ruler of Udaipurwati . Kunwar Purshottamdas married Thukrani Phool Kanwar Mertani Ji Sahiba of Kuchaman. He was succeeded by his son Thakur Prithvi Singh as the Thakur Saheb of Jhajhar, he was brave and outstanding personality. Prithvi Singh made the arrangements of protection to Jhajhar.   He died valiantly fighting in the battle of Devli and Heerapura, north of Sambhar. He had four sons, after his death Jhajhar was divided into Chaar Panas (four parts), among four sons of Thakur Prithvi Singh Ji. Due to the influence of the Shekhawats, no incident of theft or robbery happened under their rule in Jhajhar. The Shekhawat Sirdars of Jhajhar were the Bhomias (Landlords). Thakurs of Jhajhar paid allegiance to their overlords, the Maharajas of Jaipur, which was collected from Udaipurwati.

Flora n fauna

Land of Jhajhar is semi-deserted. Khejri trees (Prosopis cineraria), akada plants are normally found here and various varieties birds like peacock, parrot, titar (Grey Francolin); you can also see rarely wild rabbits at the campsite.

HAVELIS
Beautifully settled village have colorful frescoed old havelis (mansions), built by Rajputs, Baniyas(merchants). The Bhairubas Mahal, ancestral residence of the camp’s owner, is a 240 years old haveli type of building which is divided into two parts Zenana Chowk (ladies quarters) and gents courtyard. It is a simple European styled mansion.

WELLS, JOHDAS, CENOTAPHS & TEMPLES
Shekhawati’s wells & johda (stepwell) are known for their uniqueness, only found in Shekhawati of its type Jhajhar have some beautiful Johras and wells.  The chatri means the cenotaphs and the frescoed temples like Raghunath Ji ka mandir, Revtya Mandir etc are worth visiting

Open farms and the grounds release the feeling of happiness, you can see farmers to growing n planting the plants, kumhar the pottry seller, villagers in colorful dress and many more
